Static-X Vocalist ‘Xer0’ Has Been Identified

Xer0 will unveil his new look live on February 25 in San Francisco, California. Xer0, the living tribute of sorts to late Static-X frontman Wayne Static, has received an overhauled new look for the band’s upcoming round of touring. It has long been established that Edsel Dope is the man behind that mask and, he will once again front the band across their impending touring this month and beyond. Respectfully, If you look and listen, I personally don’t think that it’s all that difficult to determine who is behind the mask, but again, that’s not the point of any of this. The purpose of the mask was to give me the ability to check my own identify at the door, so I could serve the cause to the best of my ability.

The updated Xer0 look, which includes a new mask and wardrobe, was the result of a collaboration between DOPE frontman and creative director Edsel Dope (Xer0), Ed McDonough from ECCO Studios and Eddie Yang. The idea for the new mask and overall image update was born out of a desire from STATIC-X to evolve Xer0‘s appearance to match the theme of the “Rise Of The Machine” tour. The new look made its debut at last night’s concert in San Francisco. My heart has been very heavy throughout this process because there is so much love for this band and so many people miss Wayne. This is very personal for me and I have taken on a tremendous amount of responsibility, which also comes with allot of pressure.

  • I wanted it to be very clear that this isn’t about me, this is about Static-X.
  • They have also been working on a new album titled “Project Regeneration” which they’ve been piercing together with previously unreleased recordings from Static due to appear.
  • This project finally combined my passion for character design and metal music into one big check-off the bucket list!
  • STATIC-X also recently revealed plans for a tour of Australia and an appearance at the Blue Ridge Rock Fest this year.

Less than 24 hours remain before industrial metal titans Static-X heads out on their “Rise of the Machine Tour” with Fear Factory, Dope, Mushroomhead, and Twiztid. To mark the occasion and to highlight a change in the band’s overall theming, the group partnered with world-renowned mask and prop creator Eddie Yang and his Deity Creative studio to give vocalist/guitarist Xer0 a new, more high-tech look. The band’s current plans include touring on the 20th anniversary of their platinum selling debut album “Wisconsin Death Trip” throughout the year. They have also been working on a new album titled “Project Regeneration” which they’ve been piercing together with previously unreleased recordings from Static due to appear. STATIC-X — featuring the lineup of Campos, drummer Ken Jay, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and Xer0 — will hit the road in 2023, headlining the “Rise Of The Machine” tour with FEAR FACTORY alongside DOPE, MUSHROOMHEAD and TWIZTID.

Bassist Tony Campos states, “Eddie took the mask to a level that we never imagined possible, and we are so stoked with the result.” Since his debut in Static-X, Xer0 has covered his neck to conceal any identifying features. However, during an Oct. 7 concert in Hamberg, Germany, Xer0’s neckerchief slipped down, revealing a tattoo on the right side of his neck.

Just yesterday (Oct. 7) Static-X revealed a U.S. tour with DevilDriver, Dope, Wednesday 13 and Raven Black. “I’ve spent the last 20 years building my own identity and touring the world with my own band. It didn’t feel right for my image or identity to be placed in the center of something that I wasn’t part of creating…It just felt like a perfect way to keep the focus on the four guys that made this great album and started this really cool band. I have to learn lots of parts…find the right places in my own voice to deliver my best version of these songs…I’m never gonna sound as good as Wayne did, doing Wayne’s thing. Static-X will begin their new headlining run tomorrow (February 25th) in support of their gold-certified 2001 sophomore album “Machine“.

“I have always been a metal fan and have listened to Static-X since their first release Wisconsin Death Trip. I am honored to contribute to Wayne’s legacy and to work with the band on their incredible vision for evolving Static-X and Xer0 into something that is truly unique. This project finally combined my passion for character design and metal music into one big check-off the bucket list! I’ve been deeply involved in the recording and production of the new Static-X album.

The group issued five more studio albums before disbanding permanently in June 2013. Static had been pursuing a solo career at the time of his death. The band would release six studio albums before disbanding in June 2013. Once the mask was complete, I tried spiking up my hair to further capture the Wisconsin Death Trip vibe and that is essentially what broke the internet.. I’m still not entirely comfortable with people using that terminology, because it isn’t at all what the mask was intended to be.

Metal Injection

Without my hair spiked up, the mask obviously doesn’t resemble Wayne in the least.. In the end, I totally understand why it is easy for people to draw that conclusion or to identify the mask in that way and truthfully, none of that really even matters. The important thing is that because of this tour, and in large part due to my anonymity, Wayne is currently on the mind and in the hearts of the fans and our community more now than he has ever been.

  • The future of Static-X has yet to be defined, but I’m looking forward to whatever role I may play going forward.

I also felt that wearing a mask would allow me to keep the focus on the 4 guys that created the music of Wisconsin Death Trip. Wayne’s mother, father, and three siblings remain involved with the band’s work to this day and have proudly attended several shows since the band’s reformation in 2019. After a big year in 2022, which included a summer tour supporting Rob Zombie and Mudvayne and openers Powerman 5000, Static-X are hitting the road again hard with North American dates from Feb. 25 through April 15 on the books. Head here to see all the upcoming stops and, for tickets, visit this location.

The 42-date trek kicks off February 25 in San Francisco, California and wraps up April 15, in Los Angeles, California. Dates have been selling out across the country, with select markets upgrading to larger venues to meet the demand for the tour. STATIC-X also recently revealed plans for a tour of Australia and an appearance at the Blue Ridge Rock Fest this year. STATIC-X — featuring the lineup of bassist Tony Campos, drummer Ken Jay, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and Xer0 — will hit the road in 2023, headlining the “Rise Of The Machine” tour with FEAR FACTORY alongside DOPE, MUSHROOMHEAD and TWIZTID.

STATIC-X Releases Music Video For New Track ‘Z0mbie’ From The Upcoming Album “Project Regeneration: Vol. 2”

The idea for the new mask and overall image update was the idea from Static-X  to evolve Xero’s look xero static x mask to match the theme of the Rise Of The Machine tour. In the following statement Yang describes his thoughts about creating the new mask for Xer0. “Eddie took the mask to a level that we never imagined possible, and we are so stoked with the result,” adds bassist Tony Campos. In advance of their headlining Rise of the Machines tour with special guests Dope, Fear Factory and more, Static-X have just unveiled an all-new mask and outfit for the anonymous frontman known only by the pseudonym Xer0. “Due to extreme weather conditions here in California Fear Factory will not make the first show on the Rise Of The Machine tour at the Fillmore in San Francisco,” said the band. You can check out footage from the concert below courtesy of Capital Chaos TV.

Fear Factory, Dope & Society 1 will also be performing throughout that run, dates for which are listed below. If you want to see Xer0’s new getup for yourself, you can catch the “Rise of the Machines” tour at any of the dates listed below the videos. Even though fans at the first show in San Francisco, California this past Saturday missed out on seeing Fear Factory’s first performance with their new vocalist Milo Silvestro, they did manage to catch Static-X’s first go with the new Xer0. “Today is a very exciting day, as we are finely releasing the first STATIC-X single and video in more than 10 years.” Says Tony Campos. “The band, our producers, and most importantly Wayne’s family are incredibly happy with the way that the album is turning out and we know that Wayne is looking down on us all with a big smile.”

My love of live music has taken me to incredible experiences with the top bands of all time in stadium shows to the smallest venues with equally inspiring musicians. Using the medium of photography and my publication, these memories will last forever. The updated Xer0 look — including the new mask and wardrobe — was the result of a collaboration between DOPE front-man and creative director Edsel Dope — who is widely believed to be Xer0 — and Ed McDonough from ECCO Studios and Eddie Yang. The idea for the new mask and overall image update was born out of a desire from STATIC-X to evolve Xer0‘s look to match the theme of the “Rise Of The Machine” tour.

“Due to this being a two-part album and the fans having already been treated to 13 original songs from Vol. 1, we thought it would be fun to share the NIN cover, as we announce the completion of Vol 2. ‘Terrible Lie’ is just a taste of what is to come, and we can’t wait for fans to heart the rest of this album! “We are so grateful to Wayne’s family for giving us their blessings and trusting us to complete Wayne’s final works,” says Xer0. “This has been an incredibly challenging task, to say the least,  and it has all been done with an immense amount of love and respect. I am also grateful to all of the Static-X fans around the world for all of the love and support they have shown towards me”.

I wanted it to be very clear that this isn’t about me, this is about Static-X. It’s been a year since we introduced my character to the world and this is the first interview that I have done. At the end of the day, we will decide if and when we are ready to bring more attention to who is actually behind the mask, but for the time being, it remains my desire to keep the focus where I feel that it belongs.
